The Gestalt institute of Cleveland has historically pioneered working with embodiment across all levels of system. This embodied, relational workshop distinguishes itself by focusing on meeting the client exactly where they are, in the moment, and by utilizing the embodiment of the practitioner as a powerful force for change.
This workshop is for individuals interested in the basic principles, techniques and approaches to working with embodiment from a Gestalt perspective. Participants will develop fundamental skills and an understanding of how to engage in embodied, relational processes in their practices.
Emphasis will be on learning to feel into and see body experience and patterns, movement, body phenomena, and attending to breath in gestalt practice.
Participants will be supported to strengthen their own sense of embodiment to utilize working with another person. We will use this knowing as the basis for attending to ourselves and for attuning to our clients.
Learning Objectives
Participants completing this workshop will be able to:
• Identify skills for utilizing their own embodiment;
• Demonstrate in practice sessions using their own embodied experience with a role play client;
• Describe client’s patterns verbally to clients in role play;
• Practice supporting clients in role play to attend to their breathing to support grounding and sensation development; and
• Experiment with using their own embodied resonance with the client through sensate descriptive language interventions.
This introductory workshop will serve as a prerequisite for the upcoming training program
A Gestalt Approach to Working with Embodiment: Advanced Training for Practitioners.
Details about dates and modules for this exciting new training in Working with Embodiment will launch in 2026/2027. Exact dates and faculty TBD.
