After the honeymoon phase of a relationship is over, couples frequently settle into a routine in which they take care of the business of daily living but much of the enchantment of the relationship fades away. Sometimes ongoing disagreements that are never fully resolved eat away at their levels of satisfactions. This workshop will introduce participants to the Gestalt approach to couples counseling, which helps couples become aware of patterns that they have created that may not be working well for them, and learn how to create more fully engaging patterns.

Learning Objectives
Participants completing this workshop will be able to:

  • Identify the couple’s systems and emerging patterns;

  • Help couples learn to self-identify unsatisfying patterns of conflict; and

  • Intervene in ways that shift the direction of a couple’s engagement to a more productive interaction.
