Mystics are the discoverers and keepers of esoteric knowledge—living wisdom gained through various forms of contemplative practice. Mystics from all religious traditions, from ancient times through present day, tell a remarkably similar and inspiring story of human potential. We are much more than we seem! Search beyond what common sense or reason allows, dip below the surface of everyday seductions and distractions, and discover that part of ourselves that can access the Divine and Eternal. Journey inward to lift the veils of illusion that hide the Truth of our being, to dissolve our perception of false self and separation and to open our sense of connection to each other and to a Divine force.

“Entering the Castle” takes inspiration from the life and writings of Spanish mystic and Roman Catholic Saint, Teresa of Ávila (1515-1582). According to one admiring critic, her seminal work, Interior Castle, "lays bare…the most impenetrable secrets of true wisdom in what we call mystical theology.” To enter the first room of the Castle, one must cultivate brutally honest self-awareness and reflection: a practice very familiar to our Gestalt community. How far does self-awareness take us along the spiritual path? What are the pitfalls we might encounter? What other characteristics must we develop to progress farther? Come join a day of contemplation and see what answers arise from our collectively focused and quiet stillness.
In this series of workshops, we draw inspiration from Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, and Hindu mystics to deepen our own spiritual practice and to build a supportive and ongoing spiritual community. Each workshop is a day-long retreat designed to introduce and support a contemplative practice.
Upon completion, you will be able to:
- Cultivate self-awareness by reflecting on one’s personal spiritual journey;
- Practice two techniques for deepening a meditation practice;
- Develop a richer, personal presence by practicing intuitive expression; and
- Identify ways to support an ongoing contemplative practice.
