The Coach Certification Program

The Gestalt approach offers a dynamic, holistic, and creative approach to coaching. It is the only program based on the Gestalt Coaching Stance competencies first introduced at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. The program is dedicated to increasing your awareness of your coaching presence and its impact while deepening your coaching knowledge and skills. Application of International Coach Federation (ICF) and Board Certified Coach (BCC) core competencies are an integral part of the program.

An Outstanding Learning Opportunity

Whether you are new to coaching or are an experienced practitioner, the Coach Certification Program is an opportunity to discover and enhance your use of self and coaching skills. Upon completion you have:

  • A holistic coaching approach
  • Grown personally as well as professionally
  • Basic and in-depth coaching knowledge
  • Skill in the application of Gestalt concepts and ICF and BCC core competencies
  • Confidence gained from practice in 18 or more face-to-face observed coaching sessions
  • The ability to apply your knowledge and skill to all types of coaching

A Personalized Approach

Co-create a learning community with the guidance of a compelling and engaging faculty. Class size is limited to 20 participants for a high faculty to student ratio. This ensures you receive the individual support and learning tailored to your needs and development of your coaching skills. Our faculty:

  • Are invested in your success
  • Are experts in facilitating learning and skill building
  • Emphasize active learning through experiential activities and practicums
  • Are scholarly practitioners skilled in applying Gestalt concepts to coaching
  • Encourage your growth through challenge and support
  • Live Gestalt values

The Program

Consists of four face-to-face sequential sessions offered every other month. The first session covers basic coaching practices and Gestalt concepts and methodology followed by sessions each expanding your ability to apply more in-depth knowledge and coaching skills. Concepts and skills related to adult development, coaching across differences, and somatic coaching are integrated throughout the program. In addition, there are two intersession teleconferences on the business of coaching. Successful completion of the program requires:

  • Attending all in-residence sessions
  • Completing at least 125 coach training hours
  • Fulfilling ten hours of mentor coaching by ICF certified faculty (provided in the program)
  • Keeping a learning journal
  • Completing a case study
  • Verifying the completion of 20 hours of individual coaching outside of the program
  • Providing anonymous feedback from two coaching clients
  • Participating in three intersession coaching sessions by GPCC™ coaches
  • Completing two ICF core competencies and Gestalt coaching self-assessments
  • Submitting a coaching vision and developmental plan and their revisions
  • Demonstrating competency in coaching practicums
  • Passing the objective and live observed coaching exam

The Gestalt Coaching Stance

  • Cultivating the coaching relationship through meaningful contact and a commitment to dialogue with curiosity, inquiry, and suspension of judgements.
  • Empowering the client, building on their resources, strengths, and innate health and using the client's interest and energy to guide the coaching conversation.
  • Cultivating awareness of self, others, and the surrounding environment; seeing and attending to the whole of oneself and the client; taking an experimental stance.
  • Focusing on the present and an unqualified presence; attending to what is emerging in the here and now while being choiceful in the use of self and ones presence as an instrument of change.
  • Embracing an ethical practice adhering to the Institute, ICF's and BCC's ethical guidelines.

Certification

GPCC™ certification is conferred upon successfully completing the requirements. The program is currently accredited by ICF for coach specific training hours (ACTP) and the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) for Board Certified Coach training hours. Upon successful completion of the program, you are eligible to apply to the ICF and CCE for their coach certification.
